Counselling offers an opportunity to explore personal issues, in a private setting, with someone who has no other role in our life.

•  Talking things over with a trained listener can often help us to gain new perspective.

•  Counsellors' do not generally give advice, or offer a prescribed course of action that provides a cure.

•  Counselling is a joint process that requires motivation and active involvement on both parts.

•  A counsellor helps us to explore feelings, thoughts and personal experiences, as we work toward a solution.

•  Counsellors' are trained to be non-judgmental, reflective, and respectful of individual differences.

•  Registered counsellors' offer professional support and assistance on a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties.

How can counselling help me?

Counselling can help you to make sense of a problem, or difficulty in your life.  Counselling offers a secure setting where you are free to explore concerns, behaviour, crisis, nagging dissatisfaction, or feelings of inner conflict.

Feelings such as unhappiness, loss, separation, or anxiety, can be expressed and acknowledged in a calm and relaxing atmosphere.  You make the decision as to exactly what you want to reveal and to the extent of your exploration, free from the restrictions that can sometimes be experienced when talking to family, or friends.

Sometimes, help to achieve a clearer understanding of issues may be all that's necessary in order for positive change to take effect.  Often, time in counselling can provide the space that's necessary in order for you to gain a greater sense of self-worth and personal well-being.

What issues can I talk about?

Any problem, no matter how large or small, can be brought to a counselling session.  Common concerns may include academic pressures, panic attacks, concentration problems, family or relationship difficulties, eating disorders, issues of confidence or self-esteem, depression, anxiety, feelings of unhappiness, or confusion.

However, you really don't have to be in a crisis, or feel as if you've reached the end of the line before asking for help.  I am happy to see you whenever the need may arise.

Confidentiality

Information disclosed throughout the course of a standard counselling session remains confidential. However, there are circumstances where confidentiality exclusions apply, for example: where there is a concern of imminent self-harm or danger to others; where there are child welfare concerns; where the counsellor is legally bound to disclose information under the laws of a specific country, and, during professional supervision, where details of a specific case may be discussed.
